ANNUAL WORKSHOP

ISPI-OC PRESENTS: Orange County 2011 Workshop:
Building Constructive Client Relationships That Allow Our Expertise to be Used

Professionals who deal in the domain of performance improvement bring years of training and experience to their work. Whether or not that expertise is utilized fully by the organization is a function of the quality of the working relationship between the performance improvement professional and his or her clients--whether internal or external and whether half way down the hall or half way around the world. Peter Block's seminal work on defining the consulting process and developing consulting skills offers a foundational set of ideas that can help the novice practitioner and the seasoned hand improve the impact of their work.

This workshop, designed especially for the Orange County ISPI chapter, will blend the core principles of Flawless Consulting with contemporary research on how brain processing affects interpersonal relationships. The goal of this workshop is to provide a space where like-minded professionals can step away from the daily demands of their home organization and reflect on their practice, learn from fellow participants and, where desired, take steps to improve both skills and relationships.

WORKSHOP TOPICS:

  • A brief review of the flawless consulting model and related skills
  • Personal influence in managing process, relationships, and self: Role orientation, "contracting," dealing with resistance, saying "no" constructively
  • Contemporary brain research applied to consulting
  • Skills practice
